New Members - Tony and Isabelle Covarrubias
Tony and Isabelle Covarrubias, along with their children Graciella and Jakim, serve the Lord in Burkina Faso. They oversee the Oasis of Hope ministry, which feeds malnourished babies, provides medical care to sick infants, and equips women through self-employment training. They are currently serving more than two hundred babies. This ministry continues the work begun by CFF members Don and Janet Guizzetti during their time in Burkina Faso.
In March, Tony and I began corresponding about prayer needs. He shared that their sending church in Omaha dissolved in June 2025, leaving them without a stateside church for pastoral care, prayer support, and spiritual oversight. Since then, they have regularly joined our livestream services. Out of these conversations, Tony asked if CFF would consider becoming their sending church. He described that need in this way:
"What this would mean for us is having a church that provides pastoral care, prayer support, and regular contact. Simply knowing that we have a church family that has our back, lifting us up in prayer and walking with us spiritually, is incredibly important. It also allows us to have accountability and encouragement in our ministry. Additionally, having a sending church serves as an important reference when we visit other churches or seek ministry partnerships. Many churches ask who our sending church is, as it provides spiritual covering and affirmation of our work. In our case, we are already have a "sending organization" which is Sheltering Wings. They handle financial accountability for both the ministry and our personal support, provide missionary training, and review and approve our work and projects in the mission field. They also pray for us faithfully. However, they do not replace the role of a local church or the kind of relational and pastoral support that only a church body can provide. For all intents and purposes, we would be considered your in-house missionaries, serving on the field while remaining connected to and supported by your church."
The elders prayerfully considered this request and invited Tony and Isabelle to review our statement of faith and Discovery Class materials. After doing so, they applied for non-voting membership and were approved in April. CFF now serves as their sending church, and we joyfully recognize them as our missionaries, committed to supporting them through prayer, care, and ongoing partnership.
During this process, Tony also shared that their solar system, essential in an unreliable power grid, had failed and required major repairs. Through designated gifts already given by members of our congregation, we were able to send $6,500 to help restore power to their compound. We are grateful for the opportunity to support their ministry in this way and are excited to present the Covarrubias family as our newest members and supported missionaries.
